The sole principal of Miyares Web Solutions is none other then Julio Hernandez-Miyares. That sounds somewhat pretentious but its not meant to be. I am a Senior Technical Director of Software Development at one of the Top 3 trafficed Internet Companies in the world at least according to Comscore/Media Metrics. A hint, its not Google or Yahoo. I am not going to name it by name as this is a personal site.

What do you think when a celebratory email for an accomplishment takes longer to write and read then the work that went into the accomplishment?
This is a tendency of large companies with too many managers. One has to be quite outlandish to stand out amongst all of the other activities going on. By random chace, some of the accomplishments will be major of course. Nevertheless , the great majority of them do not make a major impact to any part of the company's bottom line.

Take out the whip and make those techies deliver!

What do you do when all of the winners and leaders decide its a lost cause and all that is left or will be left are the ghouls?

What do you do when the Big Bloated Company march to greater and greater efficiency consists of removing more and more of the individual software engineers but with no corresponding reduction in the remaining work?

You work for a Bloated Big Company (BBC). You are a technologist and a manager/leader. Though managing and leading are important and necessary contributors to success of any organization, you can't succeed without the right number of doers.

The culture is one of blame passing, talking, spinning, meetings,summits all pretending to be useful work.

What do you DO?

In big bloated companies (BBC),managers usually have not much to do because there are so many of them. Fear not, they will figure out a way to stay busy by trying to do your job just not as effectively.

If you find yourself managing technology in a Big Bloated Company (BBC), find another job at a startup.

I am being somewhat facetious here with that statement. Bloated, slow moving has-been companies have been able with effective leadership to posiively change direction.
